Team India is set to tour South Africa for a short series which begins on Sunday. Indian Cricket team will be playing the first T20 under Suryakumar Yadav in Durban. Aiden Markram has been tasked with the responsibility of leading South Africa in the white ball formats.

For many Indian Cricket fans, 2024 is a huge year as far as an assault on yet another world title is concerned. Rohit Sharma has already overseen India losing two World Titles in 2023 both against Australia in the final.

Ahead of the big tournament to be held in the American continent, there are massive fears amongst the fans. India seems to be heading into the tournament underprepared with just 6 T20I matches being played.

Cause of concerns amongst fans valid?

Indian Cricket Team will begin their three-match T20I series against South Africa on Sunday in Durban. This will be followed by the second match to be played at St George’s Park in Gqeberha (formerly known as Port Elizabeth). The final game of the series will be played on the 14th of December at the famous Johannesburg stadium.

Afghanistan will tour India for a three-match T20 series to be played in Mohali, Indore, and Bengaluru. There is genuine concern that India could be short of international match practice for the 2024 T20 World Cup.

There is a valid argument that IPL 2024 could act as a perfect preparation before the tournament. One must keep in mind that the conditions in India during IPL will be completely different. When the tournament kicks off in the Caribbean the pitches will also differ from the ones in India during the IPL.

Secondly, the road before the 2024 T20 World Cup seems hazy due to the captaincy issues. There is still uncertainty on who will be the skipper during the campaign. Rohit Sharma hasn’t ruled out a return to T20I yet, while Hardik Pandya is yet to get fit. Suryakumar Yadav meanwhile has done a good job in his first chance as the Indian skipper.

There are lots of questions to be answered and there are lots of doubts creeping up. One thing is for certain Indian cricket team and its fans are in for a roller-coaster ride in the coming year.
