Ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) Gujarat Titans (GT) has received a major setback as Mohammed Shami is ruled out of the IPL 2024. Mohammed Shami who underwent surgery needs more time for his recovery. He was a crucial player for Gujarat Titans in the last IPL. He played 17 matches and took 28 wickets as he ended up with the highest wicket-taker in IPL 2023. He also won the Purple Cap Award.
As this news comes in Gujarat Titans hasn’t announced his replacement. But here are 3 players who can replace Mohammed Shami in the Gujarat Titans team in IPL 2024.
#1. Kartik Tyagi
Young India faces Kartik Tyagi made his IPL in 2020 with Rajasthan Royals (RR). In 2020 he played 10 matches and took 9 wickets for Rajasthan Royals. After taking a season with Rajasthan Royals he moved on to SunRisers Hyderabad in 2022. Ahead of the IPL auction 2024 SunRisers Hyderabad released him from the team. He was picked by Gujarat Titans for Rs. 60 lakhs. So far he has played 19 matches in IPL and has taken 15 wickets. As Mohammed Shami is ruled out Kartik Tyagi can be a good replacement for the Gujarat Titans for the IPL 2024.
#2. Umesh Yadav
Another India fast bowler who can replace Mohammed Shami in Gujarat Titans for IPL 2024 is his teammate, Umesh Yadav. Umesh Yadav has vast experience in IPL as he has played 141 matches and has picked 136 wickets so far in IPL. He started his IPL journey with Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) back in 2010. In a mini-auction for IPL 2024, Umesh Yadav was bought for Rs. 5.80 crores by Gujarat Titans. Till now he has been part of Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kolkata Knight Riders.
#3. Darshan Nalkande
Darshan Nalkande was picked by Punjab Kings in the 2019 IPL auction but didn’t feature in any of the matches. In the 2022 IPL auction, he was picked by Gujarat Titans. He got a chance to play 2 matches in that season. In those 2 matches, he picked 2 wickets. In 2023 he played only one match for Gujarat Titans which was the semi-final against Chennai Super Kings. He has a decent record in domestic cricket. He will be getting ready to cement his place in the squad as Mohammed Shami is ruled out.
