The Australia A team is currently on a tour to India to play two multi-day matches and three One-Dayers. The first of the two multi-day matches are set to get underway on September 16 (Tuesday) with Shreyas Iyer leading the India A squad.

The three-match One-Day series between the two teams will be played from September 30 to October 5 at the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur. Rajat Patidar has been named the captain of the team for the first match while Tilak Varma will lead the team in the last two matches.

Here’s the list of 5 players who missed out from being picked in India A squad for One-Day series:

1. Shreyas Iyer

Shreyas Iyer is surprisingly missing the One-Day squad despite the fact that he has not played the format since the Champions Trophy in March. He was India’s leading run-scorer during the CT 2025 triumph but apart from IPL, hasn’t played any top level cricket since then. He is set to be picked for the upcoming Australia tour where India will play three ODIs and could’ve done with some much needed match practice.

2. Karun Nair

Karun Nair was the leading run-scorer in the Vijay Hazare Trophy last season. He amassed 779 runs in just eight innings at an impeccable average of 389.5 and a strike rate of 124.4 and was dismissed only twice while also smashing five centuries and a fifty. But his unreal form has been forgotten after a not so great England tour. With formats being different Nair should’ve been included in the squad and given a chance to prove his mettle. But he has been ignored completely.

3. Varun Chakaravarthy

Varun Chakaravarthy is making his ball talk in the Asia Cup and in the T20 format. But he shined in the domestic circuit in the 50-over format as well last season. He was the second highest wicket-taker with 18 scalps in just six matches with two five-wicket hauls to his name. But the selectors have overlooked his stunning performances and despite being available after the Asia Cup, hasn’t been included in the squad for the last two matches.

4. Rohit Sharma

A lot was being reported about Rohit Sharma opting to play for India A in the series against Australia A. To be very fair, it wouldn’t have been a bad idea for the Indian ODI captain to get some match practice before the Australia tour. Has he been not considered or did Rohit decide not to play? This is not clear but one feels he missed out on an opportunity to get into the groove before the important series vs Australia away from home.

5. Virat Kohli

The same is the case with Virat Kohli. Like Rohit, even he has retired from two out of three formats and is short on match practice. It would’ve been a treat for fans and a match practice for him, had he been picked to play in this series. But again there is no clarity, if the selectors didn’t pick them or the players denied playing.
