Former India opener Aakash Chopra has made a huge claim that despite being chosen in the Indian 15-member squad for the Asia Cup 2025, Rinku Singh won’t be able to make it into the final playing XI.
Rinku is a lower-order batter with exceptional hitting ability. His cameos are frequently essential to leading the team to a significant total or assisting the team in pursuing ambitious goals. The player has recently drawn criticism for not making any noteworthy knocks. In his last 13 T20I innings, Rinku has only managed to register one fifty.
Rinku, who made his India T20I debut in 2023, has made 546 runs in 33 T20Is with 3 fifties to his name. His highest score is 69*, and his strike rate is 161.06. Rinku doesn't contribute in the bowling department, and this just adds to the trouble of the player amid this poor form.
“Rinku Singh will sit out; Shivam Dube will play at no. 7.”- Aakash Chopra
According to Aakash Chopra, Rinku would not be able to represent India in the 2025 Asia Cup, which will be held in the United Arab Emirates from September 9 to September 28.
Shivam Dube might get an opportunity to play, Chopra continued. In response to a user's query about why Shashank Singh was left off of the India squad for the event, Chopra expressed his opinions.
"It's a good question. His number will come, but it can't come so soon because there is no place. Rinku Singh, as a finisher, will be sitting out currently, and Shivam Dube will probably play at No. 7 if he gets a chance to play. Hardik Pandya and Jitesh Sharma are there. Where is the place?” Chopra said on his YouTube channel.
Rinku only faced 113 and 134 balls in the IPL 2024 and 2025, respectively, since his role was diminished. This period also saw a decline in his peak performance.
