Aakash Chopra, a former opener for India, has denounced the criticism directed at Jasprit Bumrah after the India-England Test series ended. Bumrah participated in only three of the five games; as a result, he was subjected to internet harassment.
Chopra saw the dramatic change in fan feeling, which went from demanding that Bumrah be named captain before the series started to doubting his devotion once it was over. The series was drawn 2–2 between India and England. Both of England's losses occurred in games where the pacer was not included in the starting lineup, and Bumrah claimed 14 wickets at an average of 26.00.
Jasprit Bumrah's workload management received a lot of attention prior to the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, as both Gautam Gambhir and Shubman Gill declared that the pacer leader would only play in three of the five Test matches.
With a range of fast bowlers to cover all bases, India's team for the England tour was announced with Bumrah's workload management in mind. Bumrah rested during the second match at Headingley, but he has already played two Test matches on the trip.
Chopra, while speaking on his video for his YouTube channel, mentioned, "It was being said that India couldn't have a better captain than Jasprit Bumrah. It was being asked why bowlers can't become captains, as he was vice-captain under Rohit Sharma's captaincy and had captained in Perth and won the match as well, so he should become the captain."
He further said, "This is how it started, and this is how it's going - trolling, that when he plays, the team loses, and doesn't take full responsibility when he plays, which means from Boom Boom Bumrah, our fans have become gumrah (gone astray). I am very, very surprised and sorry."
Chopra pointed out that even though Bumrah hasn't played as many games since 2020, he has bowled more overs and claimed more wickets than Mohammed Siraj. Only Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins, he added, have taken more Test wickets than Bumrah during this time.
