The former Indian skipper and the batting great, Virat Kohli achieved a historic milestone of 50 ODI century with an iconic knock in the ongoing first semi-final of the ODI World Cup 2023, against New Zealand at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Kohli surpassed the former legendary Indian batter Sachin Tendulkar who had a world record of 49 ODI centuries to his name.
Meanwhile, the moment was also special for Virat Kohli as previous record holder Sachin Tendulkar himself was also present there in the stands of the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai to witness this historic moment in the history of ODI cricket. Virat Kohli also bowed down to Sachin Tendulkar while celebrating his 50th ODI century.
Virat Kohli broke Sachin Tendulkar's two records in his 117-run knock
Subsequently, the two greats of Indian cricket also hugged each other during the mid-inning break. Furthermore, Sachin Tendulkar also took to Twitter to congratulate Virat Kohli for this historic achievement in ODI cricket; he also recalled the moment Virat was new in the team and team members pranked him into touching Sachin's feet.
“The first time I met you in the Indian dressing room, you were pranked by other teammates into touching my feet. I couldn’t stop laughing that day. But soon, you touched my heart with your passion and skill. I am so happy that that young boy has grown into a ‘Virat’ player,” wrote Sachin Tendulkar in a tweet from his official Twitter handle.
“I couldn’t be happier that an Indian broke my record. And to do it on the biggest stage - in the World Cup Semi-final - and at my home ground is the icing on the cake,” he added later.
