In a recent line of developments, the Pakistan Cricket Board has gotten a new chairman after the former chief Zaka Ashraf resigned just a few days back. The interim chief minister of Pakistan’s Punjab province, Mohsin Naqvi has been appointed as the caretaker chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board amidst a major chaos surrounding the Pakistan Cricket.

However, the nomination of Mohsin Naqvi for the post of chairman is yet to be made official; it will be official after approval from the incumbent caretaker Prime Minister of Pakistan, Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar. Notably, the Prime Minister of Pakistan is the default Patron-in-Chief of the Pakistan Cricket Board, who nominates the candidate for the chairmanship of the country’s cricket Board.

Mohsin Naqvi, alongside being CM is also an owner of a media channel in Pakistan; he is also serving as caretaker CM of Pakistan’s Punjab province for 12 months. He also spoke to reporters in Lahore immediately after the news came out in the media.

“I will try to fix the issues affecting Pakistan cricket. Reforms in cricket are the need of the hour,” said Naqvi to the reporters.

“I was working for the betterment of cricket but we can't work in this way. Now it is up to Prime Minister [Kakar], whomever he nominates [will take my place],” he added later.

Notably, the Pakistan Cricket Team had a very miserable run during the tenure of the former PCB chief Zaka Ashraf. The team played two major international tournaments, Asia Cup in Sri Lanka and Pakistan followed by the ODI World Cup 2023 in India.

The team under the captaincy of former skipper Babar Azam failed to make it to the final of the Asia Cup 2023 and were also knocked out from the league stage of the ODI World Cup 2023 in India.
