After being overlooked for the fourth Test match between India and England, Abhimanyu Easwaran's wait for an India cap continues. Since 2021, Easwaran has been on the Indian team's periphery and has not yet been included in an XI. Although he was passed over for Sai Sudharsan, the Bengal batter was considered to take Karun Nair's spot in Manchester.
When Shubman Gill and Gautam Gambhir decided to reinstate Sai Sudharsan in the India XI, Abhimanyu Easwaran was once again forced to carry drinks around.
During Karun Nair's repeated failures at No. 3, Sudharsan, who was dropped during the first Test, has returned. Easwaran, a top-order batsman in domestic cricket, was once again passed over for the left-hander, who led the IPL 2025 in scoring.
Since Easwaran’s maiden India Test call-up, a total of 15 players have played a Test match for India, with Anshul Kamboj being the latest one to join the list on Wednesday (July 23) in Manchester, but his wait is still on.
Abhimanyu Easwaran’s impressive first-class career
With the aid of 27 hundreds and 31 fifties, the Bengali right-hander has scored 7841 runs in 103 first-class games thus far.
From June 6–9, he played his final competitive match for India A against the England Lions at Northampton, where he scored 80 runs and 11 runs.
Easwaran was expected to succeed Rohit Sharma as India's Test opener, but he was unable to do so due to the ascent of Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul's strong play since the 2024–25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
