Abhishek Sharma gets out on a golden duck vs Australia A post his Asia Cup success

At the 2025 Asia Cup, Abhishek Sharma was India's most promising player, finishing as the top run scorer and assisting his country in winning the trophy for a record nine times. The young and dynamic left-hander gave explosive starts at the top of every game except one, smashing 314 runs at a strike rate of 200 over the tournament. He was called up to the India A team for an unofficial ODI series against Australia A as a result of his performance.

But Abhishek's performance in the second unofficial ODI was not good. In the second unofficial ODI between India A and Australia A at Green Park Stadium in Kanpur, world No. 1 T20I batsman Abhishek Sharma opened the innings for India A but was dismissed for a golden duck. Will Sutherland finished his catch to get him out after skipper Shreyas Iyer chose to bat first, winning the toss.

The batter's performance in the unofficial match does not help his case, even though there are still rumours that he would be included in the Indian ODI squad. In the opening ball of the second over, Jack Edwards got rid of him for a zero. 

India A collapsed after his ejection, coming down to 17/3. Shreyas Iyer and Prabhsimran Singh also left on a shoestring. He replaced Arya, who had made an impression with a hundred in the opening, so his failure was particularly unfortunate.

It's noteworthy that Abhishek is playing for India A in an ODI match for the first time, while Iyer, who recently requested a break from red-ball cricket, is captaining the team. The inaugural India A vs. Australia A match, in which the home team amassed 413/6 and thrashed the visitors by 171 runs, was missed by Abhishek. Priyansh Arya, who had smashed a 101 off just 84 balls in the match, was replaced by Abhishek in the starting lineup.
