Adil Rashid opens up on Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli’s leadership styles

England spinner Adil Rashid has shared his views on the Indian Test captain Shubman Gill, who steered India to a 336-run win over England in the second Test in Birmingham as hosts leveled the series 1-1 with three more games to go.

Talking about Gill’s captaincy, Rashid stated it’s too early to comment on his leadership skills. Later, he also reckoned that the former Indian Test captain Virat Kohli used to get the best out of the team every time he stepped onto the field.

However, the English spinner stated that it would be interesting to watch how Gill fares in this new role as a captain. Notably, Gill started off his Test captaincy with a defeat in Leeds, but made a stunning comeback with India’s biggest away win by runs in Birmingham.

"That could change on performances, depending on whether they win or lose. It is still very early. If he goes through a bad patch that might change, in ways of how he deals with certain things. Kohli always, whether it was first or till the end, that passion he always had. Fiery, he had that thing. That's how some characters are. Kohli's character was that. He got the best out of the team. Shubman will be interesting to see how he goes," Adil said on the 'Beard Before Wicket' Podcast.

Furthermore, former England opener Dawid Malan, who announced his retirement from international cricket, has also opened up on how Virat Kohli earned the respect from everyone despite showing his emotions out.

"Kohli earned the respect from everyone but he showed his emotions out. He wanted people to be in a fight and really into the game. The Indian team that he led under that era was phenomenal. They dominated world cricket because he molded the team in his image. So both ways work," Dawid Malan stated in the same podcast.
