Now to add fuel to the fire, Pathan’s earlier post on X criticising MS Dhoni for sporting army gloves during the World Cup 2019 has gone viral. For the unversed, the India wicketkeeper wore army insignia gloves during 2019 ODI World Cup as a tribute to the Indian army.

Notably, the gloves featured the ‘Balidan’ dagger insignia of the Indian Territorial Army’s special forces, a symbol he is associated with as an honorary Lieutenant Colonel. However, the ICC requested the BCCI to ask Dhoni to remove it.

The ICC regulations state that only manufacturers’ logos are permitted on the gloves and that no individual messages, political or religious symbols can be displayed. After the BCCI’s intervention, Dhoni agreed to follow the rules and removed the insignia.

What did Pathan say on the matter?

Coming back to Irfan Pathan, he had critcised MS Dhoni in the matter stating that the rules should be same for all. “We all know Lt Colonel MS Dhoni’s love towards our armed forces, even we love our armed forces. But ICC rules are same for all d we’ve to abide by the laws. 1 question: I would like to ask, will it be fine if any opposition that’s playing against us sport their armed forces logo?” Pathan had posted in 2019.

The former all-rounder’s views on this matter have gone viral on X now with different set of fans divided yet again. Earlier, when his old interview commenting on Dhoni’s hookah parties had gone viral, Pathan had alleged if it was a PR strategy or a fan war that it went viral out of nowhere after five years.
