Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) captain Ajinkya Rahane has hailed the all-rounder Sunil Narine for his heroics with the ball against the Delhi Capitals in the 48th match of the IPL 2025 season at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Tuesday, April 29.
Narine was particularly exceptional with the ball in the middle overs, scalping three wickets, conceding 29 runs from four overs. He pocketed the wickets of Faf du Plessis, Axar Patel and Tristan Stubbs to turn the game upside down.
"When Sunil came into the bowl and picked up two wickets, and when they lost three wickets in the middle, I thought that was the game for us. We felt we were short (with the bat). Sunil bowled well, good support from (Andre) Russell, and (Anukul) Roy bowled well. He has been doing well for us, though let us back him,” Ajinkya Rahane said in the post-match presentation ceremony.
Moreover, Rahane termed Narine as KKR's match winner. Interestingly, Narine also contributed with the willow, smacking 27 runs in 16 balls with two fours and four sixes, stitching a 48-run stand for the first wicket with Rahmanullah Gurbaz.
"Match-winner for us. As a captain, good to have him and Varun. Narine comes early for the practice sessions, working hard, batting as well. [Andre Russell] Dre as well is working hard on his bowling. He has been bowling yorkers in training and we thought we could back him. He has been fantastic for us, whenever he has bowled, he has picked up a wicket," he added.
Moving into the details of the match, KKR posted a 205-run target for the Capitals. In the chase, Faf du Plessis was the star batter with 62 runs in 45 balls while Capitals could score only 190/9 in 20 overs, losing the game by 14 runs.
