Ajit Agarkar will continue to serve as the selection committee head until June 2026, according to a decision made by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

Agarkar has led Indian cricket through an incredible era since taking office in June 2023, which included winning the Champions Trophy in 2025 and the T20 World Cup in 2024, which ended the team's protracted wait for an ICC trophy. Additionally, India made it to the home final of the 2023 ODI World Cup and effectively navigated a transitional period in Test cricket.

Agarkar oversaw a challenging phase for Indian cricket with three stalwarts—Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Ravichandran Ashwin—bidding farewell. While Kohli and Rohit will continue in ODIs, Ashwin has retired from all formats. In the meantime, Suryakumar Yadav has been appointed T20I captain, with Shubman Gill taking charge of the Test side.

“Under his tenure the Indian team had won titles and had seen transition (of the Tests and T20) too. The BCCI had extended his contract till June 2026, and he had accepted the offer a few months back,” a BCCI official told The Indian Express.

The tenures of other BCCI selectors are to be evaluated as well

Ajit Agarkar, SS Das, Subroto Banerjee, Ajay Ratra, and S Sharath make up the current selection committee. After the BCCI's annual general body meeting in September, however, adjustments are anticipated.

Sharath, who was elevated to the senior panel in January 2023 after initially taking over as chairman of the junior selection committee in September 2021, will finish his four-year term. It is believed that a new member will likely take his place on the board, and new applications will be welcomed.

Although Das and Banerjee's futures are still up in the air, the BCCI is apparently happy with the current panel, and only one change is anticipated.

The board will also welcome applications for the senior women’s and junior men’s selection committees. Neetu David, the head of the women's panel, Arati Vaidya, and Mithu Mukherjee will finish their five-year term as selectors, which is the longest permitted per board rules. The forthcoming season is viewed as critical since the Women's T20 World Cup is set for the following year.

Thilak Naidu, Ranadeb Bose, Harvinder Singh Sodhi, Pathik Patel, and Krishen Mohan presently make up the junior men's selection committee. It is known that the board is also thinking about making some adjustments to this panel.
