Amay Khurasiya was a huge name in Indian domestic cricket in the 1990s. He shared the Indian team dressing room with the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid, and Anil Kumble. However, once his cricketing career ended, Khurasiya got into administration after clearing the UPSC exam.
Born on May 18, 1972, in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, Khurasiya made a huge name for himself as a flamboyant left-handed top-order batter. After spending years in domestic cricket for MP, Amay Khurasiya made an exciting India debut in the 1999 Pepsi Cup. He hit a fifty in his first game against Sri Lanka, showcasing his ability to dominate spinners and pacers alike.
He was also named in India’s 1999 World Cup squad in England but didn’t get a chance to play a single game. He continued in India XI for the Aiwa Cup and Coca-Cola Challenger Series after that but managed just 66 runs in six games.
Overall, Khurasiya played 12 ODIs for India from 1999 to 2001 and scored 149 runs, with his 57 on debut remaining his highest score.
He played 119 FC matches, scoring 7304 runs with 21 centuries, and in 112 List-A games, made 3768 runs with four centuries to his name.
Amay Khurasiya becomes a customs inspector after clearing the UPSC exam post-cricket career
With no chances of making an Indian team comeback, Amay Khurasiya bid goodbye to cricket entirely in 2006; he turned to Indian administrative services.
Notably, Khurasiya is the only Indian cricketer to have cracked the UPSC Civil Services Examination before making his India debut. He currently works as an inspector in Indian Customs & Central Excise, balancing public service with his love for the game.
Amay Khurasiya has continued his association with cricket, honing the careers of Indian players like Rajat Patidar, who won the IPL 2025 as RCB captain, and Avesh Khan, the India and Lucknow Super Giants pacer.
He assumed the role of head coach of Kerala's Ranji Trophy squad in 2024 and guided them to their first-ever Ranji Trophy final, a momentous accomplishment that garnered national attention.
