Ambati Rayudu takes brutal dig at England legend for joker comment in IPL 2024

After responding to Kevin Pietersen's notorious "joker" remark with a scathing recall of the Englishman's lacklustre time at Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), former India batter Ambati Rayudu has sparked a flurry of discussion.

Following the IPL 2024 final, Kevin Pietersen jokingly referred to Ambati Rayudu as a "joker" on air, which appeared to be light-hearted banter. After Rayudu changed from wearing an orange waistcoat (SRH) to the KKR colour after the game, Pietersen, who had stuck to his purple support for KKR, couldn't help but tug his leg.

Pietersen said, "You're a joker, always a joker," to which Rayudu calmly responded at the moment, "I am supporting both teams. I am supporting good cricket."  A social media frenzy resulted from the exchange becoming viral.

Ambati Rayudu has now retaliated against Kevin Pietersen after several months. He discussed the event and made a cruel jab at Pietersen's own IPL record in a recent podcast with Shubhankar Mishra, claiming that he accomplished nothing while playing for RCB.

The former CSK player further disclosed that Pietersen later expressed regret to him in private, acknowledging that he shouldn't have spoken those things live. Pietersen felt the heat of the backlash, but Rayudu was clear that it had little effect on him.

Even though he said it didn’t affect him much, he seems to be doing quite the opposite now, as he went on a podcast and took a dig at the former English cricketer. He went on to say, “We could also tell him things because he played for RCB and did not do anything. I was maintaining professional decorum."

Pietersen, in contrast with Rayudu, had a somewhat shorter and less noteworthy IPL career. His IPL stats for Royal Challengers Bengaluru make Rayudu's remarks somewhat hurtful. Despite playing for the team in 2009 and 2010, he barely had the effect one would expect from a superstar, scoring only 93 runs in six games in 2009 and 236 runs in seven games in 2010.
