The latest edition of the Asia Cup is upon us and the tournament is set to be played in the T20 format this year. Eight teams are featuring for the first time and they have been divided into two groups of four each.

Several talented batters will be on show during the 20-day event that will be played in the UAE. Here are 5 batters to watch out for in Asia Cup 2025

1. Shubman Gill

A lot has been said about Shubman Gill and his comeback in India’s T20I side as vice-captain. He last played in the format July 2024 against Sri Lanka and was busy featuring in either Tests or ODIs after that. Moreover, leadership duties in Tests added more responsibilities on his shoulders. But Gill is a beast in T20Is as well and has scored 578 runs at a strike rate of almost 140. However, his batting will be tested as the likes of Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson have set the bar high at the top of the order with their fearless approach.

2. Salman Ali Agha

He is the captain of Pakistan, but there is no certainty in that team unless there is a performance. Salman Ali Agha has impressed so far as captain, but things change quickly in Pakistan, especially if they lose against India. His batting and captaincy will be tested in Asia Cup and the pressure will be immense on him. It remains to be seen how he handles his batting in the middle order during the tournament.

3. Kusal Mendis

Kusal Mendis has only improved as a T20 batter over the last 12 months or so. Time and again, he has provided brilliant starts for Sri Lanka and has forced Kusal Perera to bat at three. He also earned an IPL contract for just the playoffs earlier this year with his fearless approach. Mendis at the top of the order is a treat to watch and he will be one Sri Lankan batter to watch out for in the Asia Cup.

4. Ibrahim Zadran

Ibrahim Zadran is one of the most technically sorted batters in Afghanistan’s T20I squad. He also tends to hold one end in the shortest format. He has played 47 T20Is so far and scored 1126 runs. But his strike rate of 110.31 will put pressure on him in the Asia Cup. He will have to score at a quicker pace and for the same reason, his power-hitting abilities will be tested in the tournament.

5. Suryakumar Yadav

Suryakumar Yadav’s form has tapered off after becoming India’s captain. Even though he scored more than 25 runs in all matches played in IPL 2025, his batting form in T20Is is still under the scanner. This is Surya’s first major tournament as captain and ahead of the T20 World Cup, his temperament will be tested too. It remains to be seen if his strike rate of around 175 in T20Is will come to the fore in the Asia Cup or not.
