When India and Pakistan play one another in the 2025 Asia Cup on September 14 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, the stage is set for one of cricket's most intense rivalries to rekindle. They will meet for the first time since the terrorist assault in Pahalgam earlier this year, which further worsened relations between the two countries.

Fans and experts are taken aback by a startling fact amid the frenzy around the 2025 Asia Cup in Dubai. Tickets for the highly anticipated India vs. Pakistan match, which is scheduled for September 14, are still unsold with less than a week to go.

A Times of India story claims that the demand for tickets has been impacted by the mix of eye-watering items and packaged sales, with some tickets still available for as much as Rs 2.5 lakhs for two seats. For the first time, with only a few days left, the match tickets are still unsold.

This is unexpected given the size of the competition. However, the "package system" that the promoters implemented this year is being blamed for the weak demand for tickets. This time, supporters must purchase a package that includes tickets for seven matches, unlike earlier editions, when they could only get tickets for the India-Pakistan single match.

In addition to the highly anticipated India-Pakistan match, the method was implemented by the organisers to promote other group-stage matches. However, it appears that the high price has backfired. On social media, Indian, Pakistani, and international fans vented their dissatisfaction and called for the release of single-match tickets closer to the game.

The blame for tickets not getting sold is also said to be the lack of superstars of the game in Rohit and Virat. However, this logic does not simply explain things, as fans have been to bilateral matches that have not included these superstars.

Fans have been furious at the BCCI for not saying no to matches against Pakistan after the Pahalgam terrorist attack. That has wounded and angered a lot of spectators, with people unofficially deciding to avoid the game altogether. This might truly explain why the tickets for the usual box office clash are not getting their customers.
