The latest edition of the Asia Cup is set to get underway from September 9 with the match between Hong Kong and Afghanistan. As many as eight teams are fighting it out for the trophy for the first time in history in the Asia Cup.

India, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Bangladesh qualified directly for the continental event while the rest of the three slots were filled based on the results in the ACC Premier Cup that was played in 2024. Accordingly, Oman, UAE and Hong Kong made it to the Asia Cup while Nepal missed out by a whisker.

Asia Cup will be played in the T20 format this year with the World Cup in the shortest format set to be played next year in India and Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka won the previous T20 edition of the Asia Cup while India won the previous edition of the tournament played in the ODI format in 2023, ahead of the ODI World Cup.

A total of 19 matches will be played over the course of 19 days of the tournament and India vs Pakistan is certainly the much-awaited clash. The two arch-rivals will most likely face each other twice unless UAE or Oman spring a surprise and there is a possibility of a third clash between India and Pakistan if they make it to the final. Interestingly enough, they are yet to face each other in the final of the Asia Cup.
