The Asia Cup is a top cricket competition founded in 1984 to foster goodwill among Asian countries. It includes teams such as India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan, and alternates between One Day International (ODI) and Twenty20 (T20) forms.

Due to political issues, the event has been held in several locations around the subcontinent, including India, Sri Lanka, the UAE, Bangladesh, and, most recently, Pakistan and hybrid venues.

Here is a look at all the Asia Cup winners from 1984 to present:

In 1984, the first Asia Cup was held in Sharjah, UAE, and India won the three-nation event. India maintained its supremacy in 1988, winning the tournament held in Bangladesh. Sri Lanka won its first title in 1986, defeating Pakistan in the final in Colombo. Pakistan had to wait until 2000 to win its first title, defeating Sri Lanka in Dhaka.

Throughout the 1990s, India and Sri Lanka remained major forces. India won in 1990-91 and 1995, while Sri Lanka took the medal in 1997. Sri Lanka added to their score in the 2000s, winning in 2004 and 2008, while India prevailed in 2010 with MS Dhoni. Pakistan triumphed again in 2012, defeating Bangladesh in a thrilling final in Dhaka.

Beginning in 2016, the tournament format changed from 50-over to 20-over. India won the 2016 T20 Asia Cup in Bangladesh and repeated their success in the 2018 ODI format in the UAE. Sri Lanka astonished everyone by winning the 2022 T20 Asia Cup, which was held in Dubai.

India came back to win the 2023 edition in a hybrid format (Pakistan and Sri Lanka), defeating Sri Lanka comfortably in the final.

Overall, India is the most successful team in Asia Cup history, with eight titles as of 2023. Sri Lanka has six, while Pakistan has won twice. Bangladesh has come close multiple times, but has yet to win its first trophy.

The Asia Cup remains one of the region’s most prestigious cricket tournaments, with a rich legacy of memorable performances and intense rivalries.
