In an interesting turn of events, Australian keeper-batter Josh Inglis and star spinner Adam Zampa have been ruled out of the first ODI against India. Notably, the three-match ODI series is starting on October 19 in Perth.
While Inglis is recovering from his calf strain, Zampa will miss the first ODI due to family reasons. It’s worth noting that Alex Carey has already been released from the first ODI to play the Sheffield Shield game against Queensland.
While Inglis will return to the ODI squad for the third ODI in Sydney on October 25, Zampa and Carey are expected to make their return ahead of the second ODI on October 23 at the Adelaide Oval.
Keeper-batter Josh Philippe has been called up by the selection committee to keep the wickets for the first ODI against India. Notably, this will be Philippe’s first ODI since the Australia tour of the West Indies in 2021.
Speaking about Zampa’s replacement, Matthew Kuhnemann will make his comeback to the ODI squad and could play his first ODI since 2022. Kuhnemann has toured with Australia's white-ball squads since the T20I series against the West Indies in July this year.
