Hobart Hurricanes claimed their maiden title by defeating Sydney Thunder in the final of the 14th edition of the Big Bash League (BBL). Throughout the tournament, several players delivered remarkable performances for their teams. Based on their contributions, here is the best XI of the season.

The opening spots go to David Warner and Mitchell Owen. Warner, who led the Thunder to the final, will also captain this XI. He finished as the tournament’s second-highest run-scorer with 405 runs in 12 innings, averaging 45.00 with a strike rate of 141.60.

His partner, Owen, had an outstanding season for the Hurricanes, becoming the leading run-scorer with 452 runs in 11 innings, averaging 45.20 and striking at 203.60. Owen also smashed the joint-fastest century in BBL history, reaching the milestone in just 39 balls in the final. This left-right opening combination adds further strength to the team.

At number three, Perth Scorchers’ Cooper Connolly fits perfectly, scoring 351 runs in 10 innings at an average of 50.14 and a strike rate of 131.46. He is followed by Matt Renshaw and Sam Billings, who bring stability to the middle order. Renshaw, representing Brisbane Heat, scored 280 runs in nine innings with an impressive strike rate of 169.69.

Billings, as the wicket-keeping option, scored 271 runs in 11 innings for the Thunder, averaging 30.11 with a strike rate of 132.84. The power-hitting duties are handled by Glenn Maxwell and Tim David. Maxwell had a sensational season for the Melbourne Stars, smashing 325 runs in nine innings at an average of 54.16 and a stunning strike rate of 186.78.

For the Hurricanes, David contributed significantly with 254 runs in nine innings, averaging 42.33 and striking at 177.62. The bowling attack features a brilliant pace trio of Ben Dwarshuis, Tom Rogers, and Jason Behrendorff, all of whom were exceptional with both ball and bat.

Dwarshuis, representing Sydney Sixers, took 14 wickets in 11 matches and also scored 146 runs in eight innings, averaging 36.50 with a strike rate of 173.80. Rogers, playing for the Melbourne Renegades, was the tournament’s second-highest wicket-taker with 16 wickets in 10 innings.

He also contributed 99 runs in nine innings at an average of 49.50 and a strike rate of 128.57. Behrendorff, the leading wicket-taker for the Scorchers, claimed 17 wickets in 10 innings and maintained a handy batting strike rate of 129.41.

The spin department is led by Lloyd Pope from the Adelaide Strikers, who impressed with 15 wickets in 10 innings. Glenn Maxwell will partner him in the spin-bowling department, providing variety and an attacking option in the middle overs.

The 12th man spot goes to Jamie Overton, also from the Strikers, due to his all-round contributions. He scored 191 runs in nine innings at an incredible average of 95.50 and a strike rate of 156.55 while taking 11 wickets.
