The BCCI has named a 15-man Indian squad for the upcoming T20I series against England, starting on January 22. The five-match T20I series will place in Kolkata, Chennai, Rajkot, Pune, and Mumbai, ending on February 2.
Pacer Mohammed Shami is finally back in the squad with his last international match dating back to the ODI World Cup final in November 2023 against Australia. Notably, he underwent ankle surgery and had knee-related issues.
Shami made his return to domestic cricket in November 2024, playing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy for Bengal. He scalped 11 wickets in SMAT while he picked up five wickets in VHT 2024-25.
Suryakumar Yadav leads the squad with spin-bowling all-rounder Axar Patel named his deputy. Interestingly, BCCI hasn’t announced the ODI squad for the England series yet. Importantly, Jasprit Bumrah, who was having back spasms, missed out on the squad.
Nitish Kumar Reddy, Harshit Rana, Dhruv Jurel, and Washington Sundar make a comeback while Ramandeep Singh, Jitesh Sharma, Avesh Khan, Yash Dayal, and Vijaykumar Vyshak miss out.
Rishabh Pant misses out from the squad
Rishabh Pant, India’s main keeper-batter across all formats, has been rested alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill. Sanju Samson and Dhruv Jurel will share the keeping duties while Riyan Parag is nursing a shoulder injury.
The T20I series begins at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on January 22. Later, it moves to Chennai, Rajkot, Pune and Mumbai. The ODI series begins on February 6 in Nagpur, Cuttack and Ahmedabad, ending on February 12.
