A senior BCCI official has opened up on the Indian players opting not to shake their hands with the Pakistani players after the conclusion of the high-voltage India vs Pakistan, Asia Cup 2025 clash on Sunday, September 14, in Dubai.

Moving into the details of the incident, unbeaten batters Suryakumar Yadav and Shivam Dube decided not to shake their hands with Pakistani players after India’s seven-wicket win. Moreover, other Indian players and support staff members didn’t walk out to the field for the customary handshakes with the opposition.

Speaking on the same, a senior BCCI official has asserted that there is no law about the handshakes after the match. He also added that the Indian team was not bound to shake hands with an opposition with whom there is a history of strained relationship.

"Look, if you read the rule book, there is no specification about shaking hands with the opposition. It is a goodwill gesture and a sort of convention, not law, that is followed globally across the sporting spectrum," a senior BCCI official told PTI.

"If there is no law, then the Indian cricket team is not bound to shake hands with an opposition with whom there is a history of a strained relationship," he added.

Interestingly, right after the match, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) was quick to lodge an official complaint with the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) against the Indian players’ behaviour. Also, PCB demanded the immediate removal of match referee Andy Pycroft from the Asia Cup 2025 campaign, alleging violation of ‘Code of Conduct’ by him.

"The PCB has lodged a complaint with the ICC regarding violations by the Match Referee of the ICC Code of Conduct and the MCC Laws pertaining to the Spirit of Cricket. The PCB has demanded the immediate removal of the Match Referee from the Asia Cup," PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi said on 'X'.
