BCCI condemns the incident of "inappropriate behaviour" as Aussie women cricketers were harassed

Two Australian women's team members were allegedly "approached and touched inappropriately by a motorcyclist" on Thursday, according to a statement issued by Cricket Australia.

The Australian squad is presently competing at the Women's World Cup in Indore. Two Australian women's cricket players went to a cafe on Thursday morning after leaving their team accommodation.

Cricket Australia released an official statement, which, as quoted by Fox Sports Australia, read: "CA can confirm two members of the Australian Women's team were approached and touched inappropriately by a motorcyclist while walking to a cafe in Indore. The matter was reported by team security to police, who are handling the matter."

The "unfortunate" incident in Indore, where it was reported that two Australian women cricket players were the targets of inappropriate behaviour while they were away from their team hotel during the Women's World Cup, particularly infuriated Secretary Devajit Saikia of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

Saikia commended the State Police for their efficient work and quoted him as saying, "A very unfortunate incident, and these kinds of incidents lead to disrepute. I really thank the State Police for their quick action in catching the offender. Let the law be the judge in punishing the offender." ​‍​‌‍​‍‌​‍​‌‍​‍‌

Given that the Australian team is presently on tour in India for a bilateral series, the issue has raised concerns in both cricket and diplomatic circles. The players were allegedly approached by the accused, Aqueel Khan, who lived in Azadnagar, Indore, next to a major roadway that led to the café. A police complaint resulted from the event being immediately reported to the team's accompanying security officers.
