The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to lodge a very strong protest against the Asian Cricket Council Chief Mohsin Naqvi at the next ICC meeting in November 2025 for walking away with the Asia Cup 2025 trophy after the Indian team refused to collect it from him, on Sunday, September 28, in Dubai.
Speaking after the final, the BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia clarified the reason behind India not collecting the trophy from a person who is waging a war against India, adding that the team’s decision doesn’t allow Naqvi to take away the trophy and the medals to his hotel. For the unversed, Mohsin Naqvi is also the Pakistan Cricket Board chief and the Interior Minister of the nation.
"So far as the trophy is concerned, trophy distribution, India cannot take the trophy from the person who is waging a war against our country. We have taken a decision not to accept the trophy but that does not allow the gentleman to take away the trophy and the medals to his hotel," BCCI secretary said.
"This is unexpected, very childish in nature, and we will launch a very strong protest with ICC in the forthcoming ICC meeting to be held in Dubai in the first week of November,” he added.
Furthermore, Saikia also heaped praise on the Indian team for their exceptional unbeaten run in the Asia Cup 2025 campaign. While India defeated Pakistan thrice in the showpiece event, they secured a total of seven consecutive victories in the competition.
"India won all the seven matches at the group stage. India won all the three matches. Thereafter in the group of four they won the matches and finally also. Out of these seven matches, India won against Pakistan 3-0. So this is a big victory and (a) big time cricket achievement for the country,” he noted.
