New Zealand and Pakistan locked horns in the first T20I of the five-match T20I series; both teams played at Eden Park in Auckland. The visiting skipper Shaheen Shah Afridi won the toss and asked the Kiwis to bat first. Batting first, New Zealand posted a big total of 226 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in the allotted 20 overs.

Skipper Kane Williamson and star middle-order batter Daryl Mitchell scored crucial half-centuries, scoring 57 and 61 runs, respectively. Besides Williamson and Mitchell, opener Finn Allen played a quick knock of 34 runs off just 15 balls, with 3 fours and 3 sixes.

Apart from him, his opening partner and senior batter Mohammad Rizwan also fell prey to Tim Southee in the 6th over of the second innings, an individual score of 25 runs off 14 balls, hitting 2 fours and 2 sixes.

Former skipper Babar Azam scored a crucial half-century, scoring 57 runs off 35 balls, with 6 fours and 2 sixes. But his knock couldn’t help Pakistan to chase down the target; the men in green were bundled out in 18 overs at the score of 180 runs.
