BGT 2024-25: Michael Vaughan picks his Australia vs India combined XI; Nitish Reddy omitted

The former England captain has selected his combined XI for the just concluded Australia vs India five-match Test series as revealed by Fox Cricket. Despite India losing the series by 1-3, a total of five players from Team India made it to the XI.

Australian opener Sam Konstas, who was part of the last two Tests of the series, has been picked as the opening batter alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal. While Konstas smacked 113 runs from four innings, Jaiswal ended the series as the second leading run-scorer with 391 runs from 10 innings.

KL Rahul, one of the most promising batters of the series, to share No.3 duties. He scored 276 runs from 10 innings at an average of 30.66 with two fifties in the series. Steve Smith, the former Aussie skipper, takes over the No.4 spot. He concluded the five-match series with 314 runs from nine innings, amassing two tons.

Travis Head, the swashbuckling middle-order batter, takes the No.5 spot as he ended the series as the leading run-scorer with 448 runs. 

Alex Carey and Nitish Reddy omitted by Michael Vaughan

Interestingly, Alex Carey and Nitish Reddy failed to make it to the XI. Instead, Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja were part of the XI as keeper-batter and all-rounder respectively. Australian skipper Pat Cummis takes the No.8 spot.

Furthermore, Mitchell Starc, Jasprit Bumrah and Scott Boland are the other pace options available in the XI. Though, Vaughan didn’t reveal the skipper of the XI, it should be Cummins without an iota of doubt.

Notably, Jasprit Bumrah ended the series as the leading wicket-taker, scalping 32 wickets from nine innings.
