Former Indian bowling coach Bharat Arun has suggested a valuable piece of advice for the mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy, stating that he needs to attack the stumps instead of bowling wide lengths.

Speaking exclusively on Cricbuzz, Bharat Arun has shared this advice ahead of the much-awaited grand finale between India and New Zealand. Though Varun is leading the wicket-taking tally for India, he failed to create an impact in the last four outings since the start of the Super8 round, raising concerns within the Indian team.

"No, no, no. He was brilliant in the past, wasn't he? Exceptional, in fact. Don't get defensive by bowling wide. When you try to bowl wide, it's not working. If you analyse it, he has been effective when he's attacking the stumps. So attack the stumps,” Arun told Cricbuzz.

Furthermore, Arun stressed that Varun’s strength is to attack the stumps as he got wickets in the past via LBW and bowled, adding that he shouldn’t deviate from his strengths in the much-anticipated game.

"He might as well attack. He's not going to give away more than 64 runs anyway. But at least he will have an opportunity to get a wicket. That's what I'm saying. Somebody should talk to him and tell him, 'Varun, you stick to your strength. Don't deviate from that. Your strength is attacking the wicket.' Most of his victims, if you analyse it, are either LBW or bowled. What does that mean? It means he's attacking the stumps. Why move away from that? One odd ball bowled wide is okay, but not when you're moving away from the stumps. He's trying to escape, and that's not going to work,” he added.

Varun Chakravarthy has picked up 13 wickets from eight innings at an average of 19.07 and an economy of 8.85 with the best bowling figures of 3/7.
