Brian Lara feels Virat Kohli will average above 60 for remainder of his Test career

Former West Indies captain and commentator Brian Lara feels Virat Kohli shouldn’t retire from the longest format of the game as he has a lot in him to deliver. Furthermore, Lara feels Kohli could average more than 60 in the remainder of his Test career.

Notably, there were reports in the Indian media suggesting the Indian talismanic batter Virat Kohli’s retirement from Tests. Interestingly, India is scheduled to take on England in a five-match Test series in the new WTC cycle, starting in June.

However, this news of Kohli’s retirement has created a sense of sadness among Indian cricket fans and former Indian cricketers. Nevertheless, Lara is confident of Kohli playing the England tour.

“Test cricket needs Virat!! He is going to be persuaded. He is NOT going to retire from Test cricket. @virat.kohli is going to average above 60 for the remainder of his Test career. #testcricket #thebest,” Brian Lara wrote on his Instagram handle.

Shifting our focus to Kohli’s stats in Tests, he has played 210 innings, amassing 9230 runs at an exceptional average of 46.85 with 30 centuries and 31 fifties, with his highest individual score being an unbeaten knock of 254. Having made his Test debut in 2011, Kohli has won games for Team India at home and away.

On the other hand, the BCCI officials have given Kohli a few days’ time to reconsider his retirement decision to come up with the final decision. It would be interesting to wait to see what Kohli decides.

"He is still incredibly fit and hungry. His presence in the dressing room lifts the entire team. We've requested him to take some time before making a final call," said a senior BCCI official on condition of anonymity.
