India have continued their unbeaten run in the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023 with a fourth successive win in their fourth match against Bangladesh in Pune.

India and Bangladesh locked horns in the 17th match of the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023. Both teams played this at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune on Thursday, October 19. The stand-in Bangladesh skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto won the toss and decided to bat first. Batting first, Bangladesh posted an average total of 256 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in the allotted 50 overs.

Openers, Litton Das and Tanzid Hasan played the crucial knocks of 66 runs of 51 runs, respectively. The duo also stitched a brilliant opening partnership of 93 runs for the first wicket in 14.4 overs. Other than these two, the veteran wicketkeeper-batter Mushfiqur Rahim and veteran lower-order batter Mahmudullah also contributed with important knocks of 38 and 46 runs, respectively.

Speaking of Indian bowling in the first innings, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammad Siraj, and Ravindra Jadeja claimed two wickets each for the men in blue, alongside one wicket each picked by Kuldeep Yadav and Shardul Thakur.

While chasing the target, the Indian opening pair of skipper Rohit Sharma and young batter Shubman Gill made a fiery start of 88 runs for the first wicket. Skipper Sharma scored 48 runs off 40 balls, with 7 fours and 2 sixes followed by Shubman Gill’s 53 runs, with 5 fours and 2 sixes.

Other than these two, the major highlight of the match was the amazing and sensational century smashed by the former Indian skipper and modern-day batting great, Virat Kohli. He scored an unbeaten 103 runs off 97 balls with 6 fours and 4 sixes with the willow. Eventually, India won the match comfortably by chasing down the target in 41.3 overs, scoring 261 runs for the loss of 3 wickets.

Virat Kohli also won the ‘Player of the Match award for his match-defining unbeaten knock of 103 runs, which was also his 48th ODI century in his career. He is now only two centuries away from breaking the world record of 49 ODI centuries, which is currently in the name of former legendary Indian batter, Sachin Tendulkar.
