Just another day in the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023 and just another Indian domination on the field as the men in blue completely outmuscled the mighty South Africa to register a convincing win by 243 runs. Rohit Sharma’s men also registered the 8th successive win in the 8th match of their ODI World Cup 2023 campaign.

Both teams played this blockbuster match of the tournament at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Sunday, November 5. The hosts skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and decided to bat first. Skipper Sharma himself provided a fiery start to India with a quickfire knock of 40 runs off just 24 balls with 6 fours and 2 sixes.

Furthermore, there came a special century from the former Indian skipper Virat Kohli, which was also his 49th ODI century, equalling the former legendary Indian batter Sachin Tendulkar, who had the world record of 49 ODI centuries. Kohli’s century was accompanied by star middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer, who scored 77 runs, with 7 fours and 2 sixes.

On the back of these two brilliant knocks followed by two quick cameos of 22 and 29 runs from Suryakumar Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja, respectively, India posted a decent total of 326 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in the allotted 50 overs. All five bowlers of South Africa scalped 1 wicket each except part-time bowler Aiden Markram.

While chasing the target, the mighty batting attack of the Proteas couldn’t survive against the Indian bowling attack led by the star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, who claimed a brilliant five-wicket haul, picking 5 wickets at the cost of just 33 runs in his 9 overs. Other than him, Mohammed Shami and Kuldeep Yadav also picked two wickets each, alongside one wicket picked by Mohammed Siraj.

Eventually, India bundled out South Africa just on the double-digit score of 83 runs in 27.1 overs, winning the match by a mammoth margin of 243 runs to stay at the top of the points table in the tournament.
