Champions Trophy 2025: 3 MI players to watch out for

Mitchell Santner-led New Zealand will take on the hosts Pakistan in the opening match of the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025 and then will also stage a blockbuster clash against Rohit Sharma’s India in Dubai on March 2. 

Santner and Rohit will face off against each other before teaming up for the Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2025. The Indian Premier League 2025 will begin on March 21 and MI fans will be keeping their eyes on their team players in the 50-over ICC tournament.

1. Rohit Sharma (India)

2. Mitchell Santner (New Zealand)

The Kiwis’ new skipper is set to make his captaincy debut in the ICC event and then will represent the five-time IPL champions after spending five seasons with Chennai Super Kings. Santner will target a winning start to his captaincy reign before joining Mumbai Indians’ camp for the IPL 2025.

The experienced spin all-rounder was signed by Mumbai Indians for his base price of Rs 2 crore in the 2025 auction. Despite spending five seasons with the CSK, Santner is limited to just 18 IPL innings so far. He will be looking to make a strong impact in the Champions Trophy and then enjoy a full-steam IPL season in 2025.

3. Ryan Rickelton (South Africa)

Ryan Rickelton, the in-form South African wicketkeeper batter, is set to make his IPL debut in the 2025 season. His recent performances in both Test and T20 cricket have ensured him a place in the Proteas’ squad for the Champions Trophy 2025. 

The 28-year-old left-handed batter is enjoying a sensational campaign in the ongoing SA20 tournament, where he has amassed 303 runs in just 7 innings at an average of 50.50 and a stunning strike rate of 175.14. He represents MI Cape Town in the SA20 and was signed by Mumbai Indians for his base price of Rs 1 crore in the 2025 mega auction.

Rickelton’s recent run of form makes him a favorite to don the wicketkeeping gloves and open an innings with Rohit Sharma for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2025.
