New Zealand is playing against Pakistan and South Africa in a tri-nation series in Pakistan in preparation for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy. The first match of the series was played between Pakistan and New Zealand at Lahore where New Zealand emerged victorious by 78 runs.

While the Kiwis were fielding, Rachin Ravindra, their key player in their ODI set-up was fielding at deep backward square leg. Attempting to take a catch, the ball hit right on his forehead and nose and it looked severe as blood started to ooze out immediately.

While there have been no new updates about the current state of the injury, the Kiwis would be wary of his condition and might have to look for options who can replace Rachin Ravindra. Let us take a look at three such possible options Champions Trophy 2025.

1. Finn Allen

The right-handed batter would be an explosive option for the New Zealand team. He has played a few games representing the nation in the One Day Internationals before as well but with the emergence of a great talent in Rachin, he had to make way for him.

Allen has played over 22 ODIs where he has scored 582 runs at a strike rate of 93.26 so far. He has also made five half-centuries in the process. He has proven his striking ability in the T20 Internationals he has played for the team and can be used wisely.

His aggressive intent and ability to exploit flat conditions can be extremely useful for the team keeping in mind that such pitches are to be expected in Pakistan for the Champions Trophy 2025.

His weakness so far has been his inconsistency with the bat. This can be tackled by relieving him of the burden of scoring maximum runs but giving him the responsibility to attack from the first ball and give good starts to the team.

2. Tim Robinson

Another fiery batter at the top of the order for the New Zealand team can be Tim Robinson. The team might very well go with the opening pair of Devon Conway and Will Young, keeping the left-right combination and experience in the bank.

Robinson made his ODI debut in the New Zealand tour of Sri Lanka in 2024, however, was not able to make his mark in that series. He got to play three matches in that series where he could only score 48 runs with an average of 16 and was dropped from the team soon after.

His ability to strike the ball clean and great form in the white ball format in the domestic circuit can be put to great use by picking him up in the squad.

3. Josh Clarkson

A rather new name to the team’s set-up, Josh Clarkson can be an interesting pick. He is not a dedicated opener and need not be used top of the order while the likes of Young and Conway are still present.

Clarkson, similar to Ravindra, can be an asset for the team with the bat as well as the ball and can be used in the middle order. He did make his debut for the team and has been pretty decent. In List A, he has played over 84 matches where he has scored over 1902 runs and scalped 45 wickets.
