The ICC Champions Trophy is all set to return after a long gap of 8 years and every cricket fan is thrilled and excited for the same. The tournament will commence on February 19 with the finals being played on March 9 and is being hosted by Pakistan and the UAE.
The total prize pool of the tournament has seen a huge hike of 53% as the total amount reaches to a staggering $6.9 million (USD) which is the highest ever that has been in the Champions Trophy history so far.
ICC Champions Trophy continues to be an eight-team tournament with the top eight ranked One Day International teams qualifying for the tournament where virtually every match becomes a knockout game. Every participating team will receive a participation fee of $125,000 and an additional $34,000 for every game that they win in the tournament.
There are also different cash prizes for different positions secured by the teams which would be additional to the prize money already mentioned above.
The bottom two teams (seventh and eighth-ranked teams) would be eligible for a prize money of $140,000. The teams finishing at the fifth and sixth positions would be awarded a $350,000 prize as well.
The two teams losing the two semi-finals would be receiving an amount of $560,000 while the runner-up would be handed a hefty amount of $1.12 Million. One team among these eight teams would eventually emerge winner and apart from the shiny trophy of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, would be receiving a staggering $2.24 Million.
Pakistan, the host team, is the defending champion of the trophy and this tournament has become a historic one for them as this is the first tournament they are hosting since the 1996 Cricket World Cup that they co-hosted.
However, the runner-up from the last edition, India has denied visiting Pakistan for the Champions Trophy citing safety concerns and so their matches have been shifted to Dubai in the UAE.
