The Champions Trophy 2025 is set to begin on 19 February. Pakistan, the primary host, will host all matches except those involving India. Due to strained political relations between the two nations, India declined to travel to Pakistan for the tournament.
India last played in Pakistan during the 2008 Asia Cup. After extensive discussions, a hybrid model was adopted, allowing India to play all their matches in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
Pakistan and India are in Group A alongside New Zealand and Bangladesh. India will kick off their campaign against Bangladesh on 20 February. The much-anticipated clash between India and Pakistan is scheduled for 23 February. India’s final group-stage game will be against New Zealand on 2 March. All matches will be day-night encounters, starting at 2:30 PM IST.
India were runners-up in the previous edition of the tournament in 2017. Pakistan defeated the Virat Kohli-led Indian team in England to claim the title. This time, Indian fans will hope for a stronger performance to dethrone the defending champions. The first semi-final is set to take place in Dubai on 4 March.
If India qualify for the semi-finals, they will play in Dubai. Should they progress to the final, it will also be held in Dubai. If India do not reach the final, Lahore will host the final of this ninth edition of the Champions Trophy.
India have enjoyed success in this tournament, winning it twice—once as joint winners with Sri Lanka in 2002 and again in 2013, defeating England in the final under MS Dhoni’s captaincy. In the 2000 and 2017 edition, they were the runner-up.
In all eight previous editions, India have participated and played the most games among all teams. Out of 29 matches, the Men in Blue have secured 18 victories, achieving a winning percentage of 69.23.
