Champions Trophy 2025

The preparations for ICC Champions Trophy 2025 has begun in their host countries i.e. Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates. Formerly known as the ICC KnockOut Trophy, it is played between the top 8 playing nations around the globe, which qualified for the last ODI world cup. Pakistan are the defending champions of the title this time, as they won the previous edition back in 2017.

Champions Trophy 2025 will commence from February 19 in a hybrid model. The opening match would take place in the National Stadium of Karachi between the co-host Pakistan and New Zealand.

Team India will lock horns with Bangladesh on February 20th in the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Dubai. And, the most anticipated rivalry, the match between India and Pakistan is to be played on February 23, 2025 on the neutral ground of Dubai.

The ICC Champions Trophy initially started as a biennial tournament back in 1998, and has been changed into a quadrennial contest since 2009.

However, ICC decided to drop the future editions of the Champions Trophy post 2017 edition, as they wanted to have only one major tournament in each format of international cricket. But later in 2021, they announced the return of the championship from 2025 onwards.

After being split into two groups of four, the eight qualified teams will play 10 matches against the three teams in their respective groups. The top two teams from each group will go to the knockout stage.

There will be two semi-finals and a final in the knockout stage. Over the course of 19 days, 15 games will be played with India, Bangladesh, New Zealand and Pakistan being in group A, while Australia, Afghanistan, South Africa and England in group B.

This year’s tournament can be watched on the Star Sports Network on television in India, while it can be streamed on Disney+Hotstar on mobile and other devices. The matches will start at 14:30 IST.
