Pakistan is all excited to host an ICC tournament after a wait of decades and with them being the defending champions of the tournament, they would be certainly under pressure to win it on their soil. However, there have been some payers who missed out on the squad. Let us take a look at three of such players.

1. Saim Ayub

The star batter has been phenomenal so far for the Pakistan side top of the order. In a short span, he has cemented his place as a designated opener and his numbers justify why has he been so.

The 22-year-old made his debut in the One Day Internationals just last year and has amassed 515 runs with an average of 64.37 in just nine matches. His strike rate of 105.53 also shows his aggressive intent with the bat.

Batting at the top, he even has five wickets to his name with the ball in these matches. He is a complete package for the Pakistan side but due to injury, he had to be left out of the Champions Trophy Squad.

2. Shadab Khan

The star all-rounder had been a key player in Pakistan’s side for almost over a decade. He has been providing that essential balance to the side with his skills with the bat as well as the ball while also being their best fielder on the ground.

He can bat anywhere in the middle order and can solidify and attack, as and when required. He has scored 855 runs with a strike rate of 85.75 in 70 games.

He has been their prime spinner as well in these games, scalping 85 wickets with an economy of 5.24. His exclusion from the squad has been due to his lack of form in recent matches, which would create a void that would be difficult for Pakistan to fill.

3. Mohammad Wasim Jr

Mohammad Wasim had showcased his abilities during the Cricket World Cup 2023. Surprisingly, he was sidelined from the team’s set-up after it even though he had put up a good performance.

His numbers show his talent where he has played 20 One Day Internationals so far and has picked up 34 wickets with an economy of 5.33.

Apart from his bowling, he can also swing his bat well and provide much-needed support down the order making some crucial runs. Including him in the team could have been beneficial keeping in mind out-of-form and injury-prone pacers Pakistan currently has in the squad.
