Former Indian No.3 batter Cheteshwar Pujara, who announced his retirement from all forms of Indian cricket, has revealed the four toughest bowlers he has faced throughout his career. Interestingly, no Asian bowler made it to his list.
Pujara, who played 103 Tests and accumulated 7195 runs at an average of 43.6 with 19 centuries and 35 half-centuries, has picked the names of Dale Steyn, Morne Morkel, James Anderson, and Pat Cummins as the four toughest bowlers.
"Across my career, Dale Steyn, Morne Morkel, James Anderson, and Pat Cummins have been among the most challenging bowlers I've faced," Pujara told TOI.
Notably, Cheteshwar Pujara made his international debut against Australia in Bengaluru on October 9, 2010. Interestingly, his last Test also came against Australia in the World Test Championship final in June 2023 at The Oval.
Delving into the details of Pujara’s first-class record, he has accumulated 21,301 runs from 278 first-class games with 66 centuries and 81 half-centuries for Saurashtra. He took to his social platforms to announce his sudden retirement decision.
“As a little boy from the small town of Rajkot, along with my parents, I set out to aim for the stars and dreamt to be a part of the Indian cricket team. Little did I know then that this game would give me so much - invaluable opportunities, experiences, purpose, love, and above all, a chance to represent my state and this great nation,” Pujara wrote on his Instagram handle to announce his retirement.
“Wearing the Indian jersey, singing the anthem, and trying my best each time I stepped on the field - it's impossible to put into words what it truly meant. But as they say, all good things must come to an end, and with immense gratitude, I have decided to retire from all forms of Indian cricket,” he wrote.
