CPL 2025: Mohammad Rizwan joins a new franchise after Asia Cup 2025 snub

Pakistan top-order keeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan has decided to join the Caribbean Premier League franchise, St Kitts and Nevis Patriots, for the remainder of the ongoing CPL 2025 season, according to reports published on ESPNCricinfo.

It’s important to note that the former T20I captain has been signed as a replacement player for the Afghanistan pacer Fazalhaq Farooqi, who is all set to travel to the United Arab Emirates for the tri-series involving Pakistan and the UAE, starting on August 29.

It’s worth noting that Rizwan has been left out of the Asia Cup 2025 squad alongside Babar Azam. However, it’s still not known whether he will be available for the Patriots’ next match on Thursday against the Barbados Royals.

Notably, this will be the first time Rizwan has taken part in the Caribbean Premier League in the tournament's history. Moreover, on Thursday, another Pakistani player, Usman Mir, was roped in by Antigua and Barbuda Falcons for the remainder of the CPL 2025 season.

It’s worth noting that the Patriots already have two Pakistani nationals in their squad, namely Naseem Shah and Abbas Afridi. Moreover, Imad Wasim, Mohammad Amir, and Salman Irshad are also part of this year’s competition.

Interestingly, with this signing, Rizwan has used his quota of playing in two overseas T20 leagues that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has given for its centrally contracted players in over 12 months, starting in July. Earlier, he was also roped in by the Melbourne Renegades for the Big Bash League.

The Patriots are currently holding the fifth rank in the standings with a win and three losses in four games, accumulating two points.

St Kitts and Nevis Patriots full squad: Jason Holder (c), Kyle Mayers, Rilee Rossouw, Evin Lewis, Mohammad Rizwan, Corbin Bosch, Waqar Salamkheil, Andre Fletcher, Alick Athanaze, Mohammad Nawaz, Dominic Drakes, Mikyle Louis, Ashmead Nedd, Jeremiah Louis, Jyd Goolie, Navin Bidaisee, Leniko Boucher.
