The Cricket Australia National Selection Panel (NSP), met on Tuesday, October 7, to announce the Australian men’s ODI and T20I squads for the upcoming limited-overs series against India, starting later this month.

While the Australian chief selector George Bailey announced the squads for the three-match ODI series and the first two T20Is, the squads for the remaining three T20Is will be announced after a few days.

“We have named a squad for the ODI series and first two games of the T20 series as there will be some management through the back end of the series as individuals prepare for the summer through Sheffield Shield cricket,” Chair of Selectors, George Bailey said.

“The majority of the T20 squad will remain together as it’s an important period in the build towards the World Cup next year; however, we are trying to strike a balance to ensure we simultaneously prepare certain individuals for the Test series ahead,” he added.

Star pacer and spearhead Mitchell Starc, all-rounder Matthew Short, and middle-order batter Mitch Owen have returned to the ODI squad, while top-order batter Matthew Renshaw’s return to the ODI squad emerges as the biggest talking point.

Also, Alex Carey will miss the first ODI as he is all set to take part in the second round of the Sheffield Shield against Queensland, while Josh Inglis returns to the T20I squad after a minor calf injury alongside Nathan Ellis. Glenn Maxwell has made himself unavailable due to a fracture in his wrist on the tour of New Zealand.
