David Warner is regarded as one of the most successful foreign players in Indian Premier League (IPL) history. Between 2009 and 2024, he played 184 matches and scored 6,565 runs at an impressive average of 40.52 and a strike rate of 139.77. His achievements include four centuries and 62 fifties, the most fifties by any player in IPL history.
Warner is the fourth-highest run-scorer in the tournament’s history and the highest by a foreign batter. Warner started his IPL journey in 2009 with the Delhi Daredevils (DD) and remained with them until 2013. His initial salary was ₹14.73 lakh, which increased to ₹3.99 crore by 2013.
From 2014 to 2021, Warner represented Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and became a cornerstone of their success. In his first four seasons with SRH, he earned ₹5.5 crore per season, which increased to ₹12.50 crore for the final three seasons. During this period, Warner won the Orange Cap three times: in 2015 (562 runs), 2017 (641 runs), and 2019 (692 runs).
He also led SRH to their first IPL title in 2016, defeating Royal Challengers Bangalore in the final. Warner returned to the Delhi-based franchise, now known as Delhi Capitals (DC), from 2022 to 2024. Over these three seasons, he earned ₹6.25 crore per season.
However, his performance in 2024 was disappointing, as he managed only 168 runs in eight matches at an average of 21.00 and a strike rate of 134.40. Unfortunately, Warner was not picked by any franchise during the mega auction for IPL 2025, marking a pause in his IPL journey.
