“Thank you for sharing your story” - Deepika Padukone steps up to support Jemimah Rodrigues' mental health concerns after her emotional interview

In Thursday's Women's World Cup 2025 semi-final match against Australia, Indian cricketer Jemimah Rodrigues worked her magic with an undefeated 127 off 134 balls, enabling India to win in spectacular fashion. However, what really touched many was Jemimah's emotional disclosure about her battle with anxiety after the game, which eventually earned actor Deepika Padukone's sincere admiration.

Deepika praised Indian cricket player Jemimah Rodrigues on Instagram Stories on Friday for sharing details of her struggle with anxiety. Rodrigues won Player of the Match after playing a key part in India's exciting triumph against Australia in the Women's World Cup 2025 semifinal on Thursday in Navi Mumbai. After the game, Jemimah opened out about her anxiety issues, motivating supporters with her bravery and candour.

On Instagram Stories, Deepika posted a video of Jemimah discussing her experience with depression. "Thank you @jemimahrodrigues for your vulnerability and for sharing your story..." Deepika stated in her post.

Jemimah broke down in tears during a news conference held after the game as she described how her parents helped her get through a challenging time when she was experiencing extreme anxiety. She shared, "I'll be very vulnerable here because I know if someone is watching this, they might be going through the same thing. And that's my whole purpose in saying it—because nobody likes to talk about their weakness. I was going through a lot of anxiety at the start of the tournament, and even before a few games, I used to call my mom and cry."

Jemimah also acknowledged the support she received from her friends and teammates during the event, stating that it enabled her to restore her focus and confidence. 

The 'Women in Blue' are expected to deliver the same performance when India and South Africa face off in the summit match on Sunday, November 2. It is believed that this will be India's third finals participation and their best chance to claim the title.
