On August 2, the Delhi Premier League (DPL) 2025 season was underway at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. Following a prosperous first season, the juggernaut was expanded by two new teams.
The Delhi Premier League was a state-based T20 league organized by the Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) and brought together teams representing various Delhi regions, and it gave the local players a chance to excel on a bigger stage with matches being televised and live streamed. All the matches of the tournament were played as double-headers at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
Six teams participated in the first edition of the DPL in 2024: Central Delhi Kings, East Delhi Riders, North Delhi Strikers, Purani Dilli 6, South Delhi Superstarz, and West Delhi Lions. These teams were captained by Jonty Sidhu, Anuj Rawat, Harshit Rana, Vansh Bedi, Ayush Badoni, and Nitish Rana, respectively.
The number of teams was expanded to eight in the 2025 DPL season, with Outer Delhi Warriorz, captained by Siddhant Sharma, and New Delhi Tigers, led by Himmat Singh, joining the fray.
Delhi Premier League: List of title winners
The final of the inaugural Delhi Premier League in 2024 saw the East Delhi Riders clash with the South Delhi Superstarz. East Delhi Riders won the toss and chose to bat first. Mayank Rawat shined with 78 in 39 balls with seven fours and six sixes. Captain Himmat Singh scored 20, and Hardik Sharma made 21 runs as East Delhi made 183/5 in 20 overs.
In response, Tejaswi Dahiya made 68 runs as Simarjeet Singh (3/33) routed the South Delhi top order. Though Vision Panchal (25) and Digvesh Rathi (21*) tried their best, South Delhi could only make 180/9 in 20 overs, falling three short. East Delhi Riders became the DPL 2024 champions.
In the most recent DPL 2025 final, Central Delhi Kings, led by Jonty Sidhu, clashed with Nitish Rana’s West Delhi Lions on August 31. Rana won the toss and chose to bowl. Yugal Saini (65) and Pranshu V (50*) helped their team to 173/7 in 20 overs.
In reply, Simarjeet Singh removed the top order for cheap, but Captain Nitish Rana (79*) and Hrithik Shokeen (42*) took West Delhi to a thumping six-wicket win with two overs to spare.
