South Africa moved to the second spot in the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023 with a massive 149-run win over Bangladesh in the 23rd match of the tournament. The stand-in South Africa skipper Aiden Markram won the toss and decided to bat first. Batting first, the Proteas posted a massive total of 362 runs for the loss of 5 wickets.

The veteran opener Quinton de Kock smashed a blistering century, scoring 174 runs off just 140 balls with 15 fours and 7 sixes. He was accompanied by skipper Markram who scored 60 runs with seven fours.

Other than these two, the swashbuckling middle order batter Heinrich Klassen smashed 90 runs off just 49 balls with 2 fours and 8 sixes. On the back of these knocks, South Africa managed to get a big total of 382 runs for the loss of 5 wickets.

Hasan Mahmud scalped two wickets, alongside one wicket each by Shoriful Islam, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, and Shakib Al Hasan.

South African bowlers outmuscle Bangladesh batting attack 

While chasing the target, the veteran middle order batter Mahmudullah played a well-fought knock of 111 runs but the century went in vain as Bangladesh got bundled out on the score of 233 runs in 46.4 overs. Other than him, it was only the opener Litton Das who crossed the individual mark of 20+ runs, scoring 22 runs.

Gerald Coetzee scalped 3 wickets for South Africa, alongside 2 wickets each picked by Marco Jansen, Lizaad William, and Kagiso Rabada. Apart from these, Keshav Maharaja also bagged one scalp.

Eventually, the Proteas won the match by a mammoth margin of 149 runs to register their fourth consecutive win in the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023. Quinton de Kock won the ‘Player of the Match award for his match-defining knock of 174 runs in South Africa's favour.

Now, South Africa will take on Pakistan in the next match of their ODI World Cup 2023 campaign. Both teams will play this match at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
