After an impressive performance in the recently concluded five-match Youth ODI series, the India U19 men’s team is now preparing for the upcoming two-match Youth Test series against England U19. The tour has already been a fruitful one for the young Indian side, having edged the home team 3-2 in the closely fought ODI leg of the tour.
One of the biggest talking points of the ODI series was the sensational form of top-order batter Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who finished as the leading run-scorer. Suryavanshi amassed 355 runs in five innings at an outstanding average of 71.00 and a remarkable strike rate of 174.01.
His tally included one half-century and one blistering century — a 52-ball ton that set a new world record for the fastest century in Youth ODIs, surpassing the previous best held by Pakistan’s Kamran Ghulam (53 balls in 2013).
With the ball, Kanishk Chouhan emerged as one of India’s key performers. The pacer ended the ODI series as the joint-highest wicket-taker, bagging eight wickets in five games at an economy rate of 4.33.
The tour officially began with a 50-over tour match on 24 June, where India U19 comfortably defeated the Young Lions Invitational XI, setting the tone for the tour. Then, the Indian side won the ODI series, held from June 27 to July 7.
Now, with momentum on their side, the focus shifts to the longer format as the two-match Youth Test series begins on 12 July. The first Test will be played in Beckenham, followed by the second from 20 to 23 July in Chelmsford.
