India won their ninth title in the 2025 Asia Cup by dominating Pakistan in all three meetings, winning the Super Four match by six wickets, the Group A match by seven wickets, and the final by five wickets. Together, Indian players in Tilak Varma, Axar Patel, Jasprit Bumrah, Shivam Dube, Varun Chakravarthy and Kuldeep Yadav destroyed Pakistan's team and fuelled India's chases.

The major reason for the loss of Pakistan has been set on their star pace bowler, Haris Rauf. Several ex-cricketers have criticised him for his poor performance in the final game, where he gave away 50 runs in just 3.4 overs without taking any wickets. Tilak and Dube targeted him especially when he came in the death overs and milked him for runs.

Speaking about Rauf on Samaa TV, Yousuf said, “We have to understand Haris Rauf – how many matches he has blown away at the end (“marwaa diya”). He shouldn’t be bowling the end overs. You remember the past world cups – har jagah isney maar khaayi hai (he has been smashed everywhere) … If he had bowled better, the scenario would have been different.”

“Haris Rauf doesn’t win the big games. We all remember the Melbourne game (when Kohli hit Rauf for two sixes). The captain has to understand which bowler needs to be used in such situations. We are not learning, keep making mistakes,” Kamran Akmal told ARY News.

Tauseef Ahmed, a former Pakistan offspinner, questioned Rauf’s repeated poor performances in crucial moments.

“We say anything can happen in cricket. But why do such things only happen to Haris Rauf in cricket? We have other bowlers who are outside. Stop the stories of franchise cricket. End franchise’s influence. Only Haris Rauf could have done this. Not Hasan Ali or another youngster. We also have been hit in our time, but not every time like this.”

After spinners had given up just 13 runs in three overs, the match scenario got crucial when Rauf was sent in for the fifteenth over. In that over, Rauf let up 17 runs, giving India a decisive advantage. He conceded runs in each of his three final overs.
