Former Indian cricketer and commentator Ajay Jadeja has stated that there is no need to play the Indian pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah in the game against the United Arab Emirates on Wednesday, September 10, in Dubai.
Speaking exclusively on Sony Sports Network, Jadeja asserted that either don’t protect Bumrah at all or if the management wants to preserve him, then rest him in these types of matches, adding that he will go on strike if Bumrah plays against the UAE.
"What is the need to play Bumrah against the UAE, man? Usually, you keep him wrapped in cotton wool. Now you need him even against the UAE? Either don't protect him at all, and if you need to preserve him, then do it in this type of match. Logic dictates that, but we never do things with logic. I will go on strike if Bumrah plays," Ajay Jadeja said on Sony Sports Network.
Furthermore, Indian all-rounder and commentator Irfan Pathan also shared his views on Bumrah’s workload management, stating that if a player if selected for a series or a tournament, he should play all the games in the campaign.
"You need to protect Bumrah, I understand. But what my opinion is, and I have said this during the England tour as well, is that if you have come to play a series, then you have to play it completely. You have not come into a series for recovery or management, you have come to play," Irfan Pathan stated.
India is scheduled to take on the UAE in the first match of the Asia Cup 2025 campaign on September 10, while they will later lock horns with their arch-rivals Pakistan on Sunday, September 14. Their last group stage game is against Oman on Friday, September 19.
