The blistering Pakistan opener Fakhar Zaman has amazed everyone with his sensational batting performance in the ongoing 35th match of the ODI World Cup 2023. He has smashed a swashbuckling century, scoring 106 runs off just 69 balls, with 7 fours and 9 sixes. With this century, Fakhar has also registered the record of fastest century for Pakistan in the ODI World Cup history.
He has been accompanied by Pakistan skipper Babar Azam in the middle, who is currently unbeaten on the score of 47 runs off 51 balls, with 4 fours and a six. Notably, Pakistan are chasing a mammoth target of 402 runs given by New Zealand as they posted a massive total of 401 runs for the loss of just 6 wickets in the allotted 50 overs.
But Fakhar’s sensational knock gave hope for Pakistan before the rain interrupted the match in the 21.3 overs as they were already 10 runs ahead of the DLS target in the must-win game against the Blackcaps. So, if the match doesn’t get started from here, the men in green will win the match by a margin of 10 runs as per the DLS method.
Pakistan bowlers get brutal treatment from Kiwi batters
Earlier in the first, innings, the Kiwi batters destroyed and outmuscled the Pakistan bowling attack. Hasan Ali, Haris Rauf, and Shaheen Afridi conceded 82, 85, and 90 runs respectively, with very expensive economy rates. Rauf and Hasan Ali scalped only one wicket each. It was only Mohammad Wasim who was quite economical in comparison to others, and he also claimed three wickets with the ball.
For New Zealand, the regular skipper and the batting great, Kane Williamson made his much-awaited comeback in the ODI World Cup 2023 as he was out of action from the field due to the thumb fracture which he sustained during the match against Bangladesh. Williamson played a crucial knock of 95 runs against Pakistan, alongside young Rachin Ravindra’s another century of 1o8 runs.
Coming back to Fakhar Zaman, he also played a sensational 81-run knock in the last match against Bangladesh when he replaced Imam-ul-Haq; Zaman also won the ‘Player of the Match award for his knock.
