Pakistan finally tasted a victory after four successive defeats in the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023 after defeating Bangladesh by a margin of 7 wickets. The men in green have kept their hopes alive in the tournament after falling on the verge of getting knocked out. Pakistan and Bangladesh played this 31st match of the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan won the toss and decided to bat first; batting first, Bangladesh's batting lineup struggled against the Pakistan bowling led by the star pace spearhead Shaheen Afridi and his fellow pacer Mohammad Wasim.

Pakistan bowlers bundled out the Bangladesh on the score of 204 runs in 45.1 overs. Shaheen Afridi and Mohammad Wasim scalped 3 wickets each, alongside two wickets picked by Haris Rauf. Apart from the pacers, Iftikhar Ahmed and Usama Mir bagged one wicket each.

Fakhar Zaman guides Pakistan's terrific run chase 

While chasing the target, Pakistan got an amazing opening partnership of 128 runs in 21.1 overs between Abdullah Shafique and Fakhar Zaman. Shafique scored 68 runs, with 9 fours and 2 sixes. Whereas, Fakhar Zaman played an outstanding knock of 81 runs off 74 balls with 3 fours and 7 massive sixes.

On the back of these knocks, Pakistan comfortably chased down the target in 32.3 overs, scoring 205 runs for the loss of 3 wickets to win the match by 7 wickets. Mehidy Hasan Miraz picked all the three wickets Pakistan lost.

With this win, Babar Azam’s men have also moved to the fifth spot on the points table in the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023. Now, they are dependent on the results of a few matches in their favour to keep their hopes alive in contention for the semi-final spot in the tournament.

Pakistan will now face New Zealand in the next match of their ODI World Cup 2023 campaign. Both teams will play this match at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Saturday, November 2.
