In a relieving piece of news for Indian cricket fans, star Indian wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant was seen batting in the nets at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Tuesday. The moment just a few minutes before the start of the third and last T20I of the three-match series.

Meanwhile, the former legendary Indian skipper Sunil Gavaskar echoed his opinion in favour of Rishabh Pant’s spot in the squad of Team India for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024 in June later this year.

“If Rishabh Pant is fit on even one leg, he should come into the team because he is a game-changer in every format. If I am the selector, I will put his name first,” said Gavaskar on Star Sports.

"He has a lot of hurdles to cross." - Zaheer Khan about Rishabh Pant

However, the former star Indian pace spearhead, Zaheer Khan differed from Sunil Gavaskar’s opinion regarding Rishabh Pant’s comeback in the Indian squad, especially if it’s about the T20 World Cup 2024.

“If you see Rishabh Pant’s journey, the turn he has gone through is not easy for any player. Firstly, everyone who is attached to cricket will be happy once he comes back on the field. He has a lot of hurdles to cross,” said Zaheer on Colors Cineplex.

“Firstly, he has to come back and play. It’s not easy at this level. You need to get used to it and get the rhythm back. Those things might take time. It’s great if it doesn’t. However, keeping all things in mind, even if he has a very good IPL, I don’t think the team will be thinking in that direction,” he added later.

Notably, Rishabh Pant has been out of action from all forms of cricket for the last 13 months since he met a horrific accident in the wee hours of December 30, 2022. During the accident, he sustained multiple injuries and had to go through surgery in the process of recovering back from the injuries.
